Last Stock Sliders and MagLab Sliders
It's been 2 months since I last wrote a blog post ...so there are a few things to cover.
(but don't worry ...it's not a long, fluffy post - I'll make it interesting for you. I promise!)
-- A bunch of YOUR "Frequently Asked Questions" answered (I cover most of the questions we get asked in emails and comments about how to buy, etc.)
(but don't worry ...it's not a long, fluffy post - I'll make it interesting for you. I promise!)
In this post you're going to discover:
-- Why we can't keep up with slider demand (and what we're doing to help get more sliders to YOU to meet this demand)
– Sliders I just put on the website now and likely will not be available ever again (I’m serious here because things have changed so much in the last couple of months in terms of what I make and how I make it)
Before We Jump In… (important)
It’s been difficult holding stock as almost everything seems to sell out fairly fast.
Don’t get me wrong…
This is definitely not a complaint. It’s great. But it does mean, when most people visit the website, there is nothing there 95% of the time.
But today is your lucky day…
I’ve had a bit of a “clean up” of the workshop today and managed to photograph and upload a few dozen sliders for sale and ready to ship RIGHT NOW. You can check them out here:
These sliders are a combination of older models and newer models. Most of them will not be made again though.
The "Old Problem" (...that people complained about)
Our old "business model" (although we kind of accidentally fell into it) was to design a new slider and then offer it as a pre-order. This way everyone would get a chance to grab one, we would know exactly how many to produce and everyone was happy.
Well, not quite!
We ALWAYS ended up being late ...sometimes VERY late. This resulted in a horrible (to say the least!) experience for customers. So, since around December, we've been working hard in the background to change how we develop and offer new sliders (and other products too).
As of now, I have no plans to offer any pre-orders (not saying I won't, I just don't plan to). We have one last pre-order we're finishing right now - and then we're done.
But eliminating pre-orders has created another problem...

The "New Problem" (...that people are also complaining about)

I'll be honest with you here:
This "New Problem" is a much better problem to have than the old pre-order problem above. We can't keep up with demand (particularly on MagLab sliders -- if you're not familiar with "MagLab", then I talk about it a little down this page).
So here's the thing...
We receive emails and comments every day from people asking how they can get a MagLab. The capacity to make more has been the problem.
We have almost caught up with pre-orders and soon I will be able to increase the number of MagLab sliders I can make (it will still likely not be enough to meet demand …but we’ll see).

So here's the thing...
Over Christmas I started developing MagLab sliders. I did not have a plan initially ...I just started making new models of sliders to have "in stock" on the website. Actually, there was a little more to it than that because the wear plates were totally re-designed from the ground up, we went back to three-screws, etc.
But long story short:
From there I pushed really hard and followed both my curiosity AND what people were interested in. MagLabs went from just a bit of an experiment …to being this wild thing that almost always sells out in seconds!
So while the MagLab sliders are great for people who manage to get one – and obviously great for me because it’s awesome they’re so popular – but for the people who miss out it’s very frustrating.
As I mentioned above, we’ve been catching up with older pre-orders …and therefore been limited in how many MagLab sliders we can make.
But here’s the good news…
YOUR Frequently Asked Questions
How Can I Get A "MagLab" Slider (...Because Every Time I Try To Buy One They Sell Out In A Few Seconds)?
I'm working on increasing production. But, for a little while at least, they're likely going to keep selling out fast.
If you can be patient a bit longer, then hopefully it will be easier to attain one.
Are You Going To Offer Zirconium Plates Again?
Yes. Not sure when - but I will make them again.
Are You Going To Offer Plain Titanium Sliders Again?
Yes. Not sure when for these either. For the time being it's going to be mostly Resin/CrazyFiber/WackyFiber Sliders and MagLab Sliders.
Are You Going To Make More Copper Or Brass Sliders?
I may offer a few here and there - but definitely limited number because they are just not popular enough unfortunately.
Are You Going To Make Sliders From Exotic Metals (Timascus, SuperConductor, Mokume, etc.)?
Yes. Likely a few months from now -- possibly sooner -- I will have some.
The Evolution Of "MagLab™" Sliders
Over the last two months MagLab sliders have gone from this…
To this…
The increase in colours and complexity is something I really did not plan to do.
BUT two things have caused this:
#1 - I find it interesting
and
#2 - People keep banging down my door wanting more of them
So I am going to continue making more. I will also continue making new models, designs, patterns …and generally pushing the outer limits of what can be done. :-)
Lastly, I have no list or official way for you to be notified when MagLab sliders drop. The reason for this is because it’s already totally oversubscribed.
Typically I’ll put up around 10, 12, or 16 MagLab sliders on the site …and there are usually 40, 50 or 60 people adding them to their cart. If I let more people know about them – while I have limited numbers available – the only thing that will happen is EVEN MORE people will miss out.
I hope this makes sense.
Like I mentioned above…
Never mind sliders, I remember the cogent days where EDC was king! Tweezers, a chap who worked for you made a peeler, the pry bar. I’d love some more of that stuff x
